Target does not publish when it restocks Pokémon cards, and there is no official restock day. Timing can differ from store to store. The most reliable way to know is to check your store's stock in the Target app, ask staff, and watch for new set release dates.
Is there a set restock day for Pokémon cards at Target?
No official one. Target's own September 2025 article about its trading card business says new releases arrive "nearly every week," but it gives no restock day or time. Target's help pages do not list one either.
You will see blog posts and social media posts that name a "Target restock day." Treat those as guesses. They come from what some shoppers saw at some stores. They are not a Target policy, and a pattern at one store may not hold at the store near you.
Why people think it is Friday morning
The Friday idea has a real history. In April 2021, with demand very high, Target only sold trading cards on Fridays at 8 a.m., with a limit of one item per guest on cards priced $19.99 and up (reported by Game Rant).
Then, on May 13, 2021, Target said it would "temporarily suspend the sale of MLB, NFL, NBA and Pokémon trading cards within our stores," starting May 14. The company said "the safety of our guests and our team is our top priority." This came about a week after a fight over trading cards in a Target parking lot in Brookfield, Wisconsin. Cards were still sold on Target.com during the pause.
In early June 2021, Target's support account said stores would "resume selling select Pokémon Trading Cards the week of June 1, 2021." Cards could be sold seven days a week, with a limit of two items per guest per day. So the Friday-only rule ended in 2021. It is not a current schedule.
Who stocks the cards
In August 2026, Dexerto reported on a photo of what appeared to be an internal Target "Trading Cards Update." According to that report, the notice said trading card inventory is owned by the vendor, not by Target, and told staff not to open sealed card products. It also said purchase limits are set at the company level and apply to every store. Dexerto's report did not include a statement from Target.
If the cards belong to a vendor, restock timing likely depends on when that vendor's product arrives, not on a fixed store-wide day. That would explain why one store gets cards on a different day than another store across town.
How to find out when your Target restocks
These steps use Target's own tools and some common sense.
- Check your store in the Target app or on Target.com. Set your store as "My store." The product page then shows that store's stock at the top. You can also check other nearby stores from the same page. Target notes that "availability changes quickly" and that it cannot guarantee the accuracy of product information.
- Do not rely on "notify me" for in-store stock. Target says its back-in-stock alerts do not apply to store inventory, and that high-demand or limited items may be excluded. The alerts can still help for online stock.
- Ask staff kindly. A team member may be able to tell you if cards came in today. If the cards are vendor-stocked, staff may not know the next delivery time, so do not expect a promise.
- Watch release dates. New Pokémon TCG products launch on set dates, which The Pokémon Company announces on pokemon.com. For example, the 30th Celebration products released on September 16, 2026, and Pokémon said they would be sold at the Pokémon Center and other stores that carry the cards "as they release."
- Share what you see. If you spot a restock, report it so other collectors near you know. You can also sign up for alerts.
Target online restocks
Target sells Pokémon cards on Target.com as well as in stores. Target does not publish when online stock is added either. Target's "notify me" alerts only cover online stock, not store shelves. For big launches, Target sometimes announces a start time. For its June 2026 Pokémon x Target merchandise drop, Target said the items would be online at 8 a.m. CT and in most stores at store open. That was a merchandise launch, not a card restock, but it shows Target posts times for special drops.
Purchase limits at Target
Limits change often. Here is what has been publicly reported, with dates.

| April 2021 | Cards sold Fridays at 8 a.m. only, one item per guest on cards $19.99 and up | Game Rant |

Before you shop, look for a limit on the product page or a sign at the card display. If you want to compare how limits work at vending machines, see how Pokémon vending machines work.
Returns: Pokémon cards are final sale
Target's help center lists "trading cards & trading card accessories (e.g., Pokemon, Sport cards, trading card binders)" as final sale items that cannot be returned. Check the box is sealed and is the product you want before you pay. This matters most for parents buying a gift.
Other places to look
Target is only one option. Many grocery stores now have official Pokémon TCG vending machines. We list more than 2,000 machines, mostly at Safeway, Kroger, Albertsons, Jewel-Osco and Fred Meyer stores.
